The City of Columbia has experienced a high string of violence in the past two weeks of September, keeping the Columbia Police Department extremely busy.
The executive director of the Columbia Police Officer’s Association, Dale Roberts said times like this, the hours our officers work are really demanding. “The policy is that they’re not supposed to work more than 16 hours in a 24-hour day, but that policy has to be waived from time to time when there’s a homicide when there are investigations that are ongoing. It’s not like you can just stop and go home, the officers don’t want to quit,” Roberts said.
